Make The Most Of Small Spaces With Your Bed And Mattress
It's no secret that today a bedroom is more than just a place to go to sleep. With floor space hard to come by, bunk beds, loft beds and Murphy beds can offer a place for your mattress without sacrificing square footage.
Raising The Bar With Loft Beds
If you want to go with the trends, loft beds are increasing in popularity for dorm rooms and children's room. The loft bed works by placing the mattress on a platform that if a few feet off the floor. The result is seating space, a work area, or even storage where there would have at one time only been a bed. Of course as something like a loft bed becomes more common, the number of available options increases. Some have a built in futon as the lower layer. This provides an extra sleeping space when needed, and extra seeting during the day.
Another option on loft beds is a built in computer station or desk. This is an ideal extra study space for college students and teens, and they don't mind climbing the latter to sleep at night. Some manufacturers have even included a built-in dresser under the bed. It's a perfect way to gain extra storage space in a tight area.
The ultimate loft bed has it all. The all-in-one with have a twin or full size bed at the top. Below there will be drawers for folded clothes, a wardrobe for hanging clothes, a desk for work or study, and even a trundle or slide out mattress for an extra sleep area.
Bunk Beds For When You Have To Double Up
Today's most common home has three bedroom, and that means if you have over two children, someone is going to have to double up. While it's true that some bedrooms can handle multiple beds, bunk beds remain a necessity. Now you can get the standard models that use two twin mattresses, but you can also get a twin mattress over a full mattress, or even two full size mattresses. This make it possible to sleep a larger number of people with adding an extra room to your house. You can even find triple bunks that have three beds stacked if you really want to make the most of your space.
A Murphy Bed Will Hide The Evidence
It's not as popular as the other options, but the Murphy bed is still very practical for small spaces. With a Murphy bed the mattress is folded inside a cabinet or wall. You've no doubt seen them in many slap stick comedy routines. Characters get accidentally folded inside the wall with their mattress. Of course this is almost impossible since most will lock into place when open and will also lock into place when stores. Murphy beds were popular in the 1970's. They come in cabinet or wall models and you can still find one to suit just about any decor.
The bottom line is that even if you live in a small space, there are plenty of options available. You can hide your mattress with a Murphy bed or lift it with a loft bed. But if you are looking to sleep the most people in the smallest amount of space, bunk beds are probably your best and most logical choice.
