How To Buy A Good Mattress

Let's face it, a good mattress is a major investment. And before you make any big investment it's important to know what you need. Consider if you wake up with a new ache or pain every day. Consider if the middle of the mattress is shaped like a small valley. Consider how much room you need to spread out All of these things will figure into your mattress buying decision.

First figure out what size mattress you want. If the room is small, a twin size mattress takes up the least amount of room. You'll frequently see twin size beds in children's rooms. And since a twin mattress is not too big, some people decide to use them on daybeds. A daybed looks like a sofa or couch during the day but at night is a comfortable bed.

For years a full size mattress was the most common size. Even modest sized bedrooms in most homes can fit a full size bed. There's just enough sleeping space for two people that like each other. You'll have less space than with your own twin bed, but still, most couples will be able to sleep on a full size bed with minimal discomfort.

But with larger bedrooms, the King and Queen size mattresses are becoming more popular. The King size is gaining in popularity, but the Queen size mattress is the current leader in as the size purchased most. You'll have less room than on a King size mattress, but of course it will take up less room size as well. If however your room is large enough, everyone will be more comfortable on a larger mattress.

The next factor to consider is the level of softness in your mattress. The support level of most brand name mattresses is basically the same in spite of the level of cushioning. Mattresses start at firm, which will have the least amount of padding. Plush is the next level. It has a thicker layer of cushioning on top of the coils. Finally there is the pillow top mattress. This mattress has a thick cushiony pad on top of other padding layers.

Now that you have a new mattress, what are you going to do with your old one? A little caution here. Too often a mattress will stay in circulation well after their support ability is gone. Many times children or young couples will inherit an old mattress. Think twice about passing yours down. If it's not supporting you, the mattress certainly won't properly support someone else either.

Some companies will haul off your old mattress when they deliver your new one. Many do it for free. Some will charge a small fee. It's also possible that your local trash collector will take it, although some require you to make arrangements to have it picked up on a day set aside for heavy trash.

Sometimes buying a new mattress can seem like an difficult and overwhelming task. Some people will even put off buying one just because they are confused. All you need to do is to do your homework, and no matter what mattress you select, you'll be able to rest easy at night.
