The Multifunctional Daybed And Mattress Makes Sleeping On The Couch A Pleasure

A spare bedroom can serve several purposes, especially if you only have one. To make it work for each purpose you need multifunctional furniture. And few things are more multifunctional then the daybed. A daybed provides a real mattress that's comfortable. No more sleeping on a thin layer of cotton. And you also get a comfortable sofa for daytime use.

Chances are you're thinking daybeds are frilly and lace, perfect for a little girl's room. They are that, but they are now so much more. You'll now find as many choices as people who buy them. And with so many linen, frame and mattress choices available, it's easy to find something that will meet your needs.

Step one in shopping for a daybed is to check the frame. The frame typically surrounds the mattress on three sides (sometimes two), and can be made of wood, metal, or a combination of the two. Metal frames typically resemble brass beds and can be painted or highly polished depending on your decorating needs.

A wooden frame should be made from any strong wood, one that can hold the weight of the mattress. They can be carved into almost any shape. You'll find anything from the traditional to the modern, making it simple to pick up the design that works best in your home. Of course wood can also be painted or stained to match almost any decor. It can also be upholstered to more closely look like a traditional sofa.

If you're really in need of extra sleeping area, some daybeds will also include a trundle or extra frame. The trundle will store an extra mattress underneath the daybed. You simply roll it in and out when you need extra sleep space. Some will roll out and stay close to the ground while others can be lifted to set the mattress the same height as your daybed. Pop-up models are great for children's sleep overs or couples.

Remember though when purchasing a daybed to select a high quality mattress. The thing that a regular bed provides that a daybed doesn't is a box spring for support. Without it, you'll need more support from your mattress. Also take into consideration the sidewall strength on the mattress. Keep in mind that it is serving as a couch as well, so strong sidewalls are needed. Without them, it will sag with continuous use as a place to sit.

Lastly, you'll want to choose good linens. At one time finding linens for a daybed was difficult. Not anymore. Many stores will carry complete daybed packages. They will include a skirt to hide the bottom frame and trundle if you have one. You'll also get in the package a comforter or spread to cover the seating surface. Some packages will even include pillows that cushion the back when used as a sofa. There are a number of fabrics and patterns available in these packages so finding one to suit you is easier than ever.

Sometimes what to do with that spare room can be a constant source of conflict in a marriage. A daybed provides the perfect compromise. One of you gets a sofa for the office while the other gets a beautiful bed with a comfortable mattress in the guest room.
